Newspapers get tossed in the garbage daily, here's some GREAT ideas for play:
Open up newspaper into squares. Scatter squares all over the room. Have child lead from square to square.
Rip newspaper into basic shapes.
Cut out pictures or coupons from the newspaper.

Sidewalk Chalk
Get out the sidewalk chalk mom, dad, gramma, cousin... etc., etc.,
It's time to color the sidewalk and fence... make a huge mess and THEN... wash it down with the water sprayer!
Why sidewalk chalk?
* Works on appropriate grasping pattern
* Works on muscle gradation - too much pressure and then chalk breaks! Too little and it doesn't write!
* Works on strokes and coloring!
What a fun media to practice writing!
Have fun!!!

Hand Preference
Developed around the ages of 3-6 ½ years.
Left handers tend to show a very strong preference OR may develop later than others
Some students should equal development of both hands – encourage choosing a hand for school tool use.
Non dominate hand should be used as stabilizer
